Pressing a Direct to Film transfer is straightforward once temperature, time, pressure, and peel are locked in. These settings are what we recommend for Phantom DTF transfers on cotton, poly/cotton, and most decorated apparel.
Recommended press settings
- Temperature: 300°F–320°F (150°C–160°C)
- Time: 12–15 seconds
- Pressure: Heavy (about 60–70 PSI)
- Peel: Cold peel, or warm peel after a 10–15 second wait
If a garment feels damp or the fleece pile is tall, pre-press the blank for 5 seconds to drive out moisture and flatten the surface.
Step-by-step
- Preheat the platen and confirm the actual surface temperature with a heat gun or strip if your press runs hot or cold.
- Place the garment flat. Avoid zippers, seams, and drawstrings under the platen.
- Pre-press 5 seconds.
- Position the transfer, ink side down on the garment, carrier film on top.
- Press 12–15 seconds at 300–320°F with heavy pressure.
- Wait until the film is cool (cold peel) or barely warm, then peel low and slow.
- Cover with parchment and post-press 5 seconds for a smoother, more durable finish.
Fabric notes
Cotton and cotton-poly hoodies need the high end of pressure so adhesive bites into the knit. 100% polyester can scorch if you sit above 320°F—stay in range and use a cover sheet. Hats and bags often need a smaller platen or a pillow so the print area sits level.
Artwork that presses clean
Send a 300 DPI transparent PNG. SVG, AI, and vector PDF also work. Avoid JPEG backgrounds and tiny type under about 8 pt. If you are nesting several designs, build them on a Gang Sheet instead of pressing one-off sizes all day.
