Hoodies are the garment that exposes weak heat transfers: thick fleece, kangaroo pockets, zippers, and stretch at the chest. Direct to Film is a strong match because the adhesive and white underbase sit on the fibers instead of dyeing them.
Why DTF instead of sublimation or a cheap iron-on
Sublimation needs polyester and light colors. Most shop hoodies are cotton or 80/20 fleece in dark colors. DTF covers those blanks without a white-garment limitation. Compared with thin iron-on vinyl, a properly pressed Phantom DTF print stays flexible through wash cycles when you follow pressure and peel.
Sizes that look balanced
- Left chest: 3.5"–4"
- Full front: 10×12" or 11×14" adult
- Oversized back: 12×15" or 12×17"
- Sleeve or hood accent: 2.5×14" or a 3" badge
Measure the wearable print area, not the hoodie width. Pocket bags and seams steal space.
Pressing fleece without scorch or lift
- Pre-press 7–10 seconds at about 310°F to flatten pile and release moisture.
- Use a press pillow inside the hoodie so pocket seams and zippers do not steal pressure.
- Press the transfer at 300–320°F, 15 seconds, heavy pressure.
- Cold peel, then parchment post-press 5 seconds.
If the film lifts, pressure was light or the pile was still lofty. Do not jump temperature past 320°F on polyester-heavy fleece.
